Sitting in a booth for song writing Kennie sat alone. Absorbed in hundreds of pieces of lined paper, full to the brim with words and she was doing her damndest to make the right ones fit together. Though the duet was finished there was something that wasn't fitting, as if it weren't melodic enough just yet. Some of the worsd weren't fitting as they should in her mind.
Biting at her pencil for a moment Kennie read over the most recent of her efforts on the song. It was as if she were posessed, something inside her had to finish the song. Maybe even put it on her debut album.
Humming the bars slowly, warming up her tired vocal chords Kennie whispered the sang quietly. Finally reaching a point where she was sure it'd make some sense to sing although it was doubtful anyone would hear she began at the beginning, tapping the rhthym out on the table. "If I should die before I wake it's cause you took my breahte away.Losing you isl ike living in a world with no air...oooh."
It was only the beginning but it wasn't sounding as rough. Now she needed to find someone whose voice harmonized with hers.

Ah, the music department. Acting may have been Wyatt's passion in life, but music had been his first love, his first true obsession and that was something he couldn't leave behind. Hence why he had added music to his studies, he'd always been very play it by ear and go with what sounds good, but now he was actually learning the mechanics of music and tricks to makes his voice sound better, get his guitar melodies to flow nicer. He was definitely improving.
He hadn't come for singing or guitar today though, he was looking to sink into a song writing booth and maybe actually finish one of his songs for once. Sure his plan wasn't to become a rockstar until after he'd established himself a little more in the acting world, but still it would be nice to have some songs ready to record when the time came. Wyatt had been about ready to settle into one of the booths when her heard pencil scratching across paper followed by soft melodic sounds, the voice was low but still he felt he knew who it must be.
Wyatt's suspicion was confirmed as he came upon Kennie Canstine his ex, and sorta maybe, future, current girlfriend. "That sounded good," Wyatt smiled standing over her shoulder and looking at the lyrics scrawled out on the page in front of Kennie. "It's a duet?" he commented noticing two sets of lyrics one for a guy one for a girl. "Who's you're singing partner?" he asked curious and maybe just a little jealous that some other guy would get to sing a song with his girlfriend Kennie.

Looking up Kennie felt a presence behind her, before she could glance back though she found Wyatt leaning over her shoulder, complimenting her and commenting as well. If she was easy to embarrass she would've blushed, instead he'd told her she was good...and that thrilled her. "Yeah it is." She said simply, shifting the set of guy lyrics so he could hear it, she didn't even realize that she was still patting the melody out on her the table with her pencil.
"Currently?" She asked, smirking. "I don't have a singing partner." It wasn't that she couldn't find one. It was the fact that the song...meant so much to her. It was one of those songs that was just...honest and real in her world and she wasn't going to ask just anyone to help her with it. Because it had to sound as much as it meant.
Picking up the paper she held it out to him momentarily. "Do you want to try it?" She asked him simply, not pressuring him or anything. Kennie knew Wyatt's gift with music and she was sure he could fit the mold she was looking for. Patting the two separate parts with each hand she stared at him, her eyes holding his to her own. It wasn't like they were official or anything yet...but it felt like they were already.
Her slender fingers hit her jeans ever so softly as she sang the part she'd started with once more, not loud and not soft, but enough for him to get the rhthym if he was going to honestly try. It felt right, sitting in the music department ... that particular song between them. It was almost enough to make her laugh...instead she was smiling.

"Oh, thats too bad," Wyatt said secretly celebrating the fact that Kennie was without a singing partner so far. Maybe he could fill in, but should he offer or would that seem to forward? It seemed stupid not to seeing as he couldn't stand the thought of anyone else getting to sing with her...but was this still considered taking it slow? Well they were still friends and friends had to help friends in need and right now Kennie was in need of a singing partner so as his friend (and a little more) it was practically his duty to offer up his services.
Just as Wyatt settled on his justification, however Kennie ruled it obsolete by offering him the lyrics to try. "Sure," Wyatt said casually not wanting to sound to dedicated to the idea so Kennie wouldn't have to feel bad about telling him if he just wasn't what he was looking for. Still he wanted to show he was excited and wasted almost no time in picking up the guys part and looking over the words. He let the words play in his head according to the tune Kennie was singing. He switched it to his tone and by the time it came to be his part he hesitated just a spilt secind before singing out the first verse.
"Im here, alone, didn't want, to leave. My heart won't move, its incomplete, wish there, was a way, that i can make you to understand." Wyatt sang the words off the page closing his eyes as if to help him see the music. He was keeping his volume around the same Kennie's had been, but maybe a bit louder to make sure he was getting the tone right, which for the most part he felt like he was."How was that?" Wyatt asked wanting feedback on his first attempt before they continued. He felt it was ok, but it could be better.

Still pumping the beat from her fingers to the table and through her jeans Kennie followed Wyatt's lead, smiling at the way the words flew passed his lips...they fit him. It was one of those musical inspirations where you know someone is just right for the song. This was that moment for her. "Perfect." She said, her smile nothing but genuine...and relieved that the person the song was about....was singing it without knowing just that.
"Do you want to try the whole thing?" She asked, considering she had the rhthym with her feet and hands down, if they could get it acapella they'd be in the recording room with sounds within hours. The idea put Kennie into a ridiculous excitement. What Wyatt didn't know was that...Kennie didn't know how slow she wanted to go. It was irritating seeing girls fawn over him...because she felt as if he were hers....but that wasn't fair was it?
Sighing she looked at her paper and sang her first line over once more, waiting for his melodic voice to come into play.

Wyatt gave a quick smile, feeling color rise in his cheeks as Kennie called his attempt perfect. He knew it wasn't, but she'd liked what she heard and that was what mattered. Wyatt hesitated took a breath, looked over the lyrics again and exhaled. "Yea, lets do it," He said far to excited for someone who was just singing acapella in an empty music room...with a very attractive singing partner.
Wyatt watched the page for the first line then looked up to Kennie coming in with the smooth melody of his voice when the lyrics called for it. he still wasn't completely satisfied, but he could work it, and hearing all the actual instruments would make a big difference as well. For now he relied on Kennie's tapping for the rhythm and her voice to help him along with the melody. Wyatt waited again for his part to come around, harmonizing where it called for it hoping his voice was blending right with hers. it seemed to sound ok.
Wyatt was glad the lyrics were in front of him or he never would have been able to remember them with all the thoughts in his head. When he finally ran out of lyrics Wyatt noticed his heart rate had increased and his palms were sweating just slightly. "That sounded pretty good right?" he asked hoping he hadn't just lost himself the spot as quickly as he'd won it.

His voice fit into the melody better than Kennie thought it would from anyone, considering their music was her tapping. That didn't seem to matter as they were able to fit their harmonies together just as she'd imagined it in her head. The thrill inside her was swelling more and more. What Wyatt didn't realize that half her excitement had nothing to do with the fact that they were good. It was that the words he was singing...were so real for her and him...and there was no way she could ever explain that to someone.
Setting her paper down she smiled at him, her eyes sparkling. "That was awesome." She said in earnest. There was no way she'd lie about something this big, especially this song. "Think we should try it with the music?" She asked him, stepping behind the partition from where she'd been sitting towards the sound boards and such. Music students generally had free reign. Looking around she found the disc she'd been searching for and popped it into the player.
Taking a deep breath she kept it on pause. "Are you sure you want to do this with me?" She asked him, the question more loaded than she'd meant it. What she really wanted to know was if he got the song...if he was hearing it right. It wasn't that she was forcing him to feel as she had when he'd left...but a lot of her had hoped. Smirking at him Kennie pressed play, leaning in her lips met his for a few seconds, pulling away she began once more. He'd be sick of the song before the day was out.

Wyatt beamed as Kennie complimented their acappella work. He still wasn't sure he was doing her work justice but she seemed convinced otherwise so he was not about to argue. "Yea I think we should," Wyatt nodded. He was interested to hear the actual music. Even though he was a better singer than a guitar player, Wyatt always felt a good beat, and melody came first, because if no one liked the beat they weren't gonna care how amazing the lyrics were. He had no doubt the beat would be fine though, he'd gotten the gist from the tapping, but he couldn't wait to hear it with full instruments.
Wyatt had been looking over lyrics again hoping he could try and sing without the paper this time, and Kennie's question caught him off guard. "Of course I'm sure," he answered quickly why would he not want. He read over the first two verses again and really allowed the words to hit him for once. "I think it's a good song for us," he added realizing that his first verse was almost word for word how he had felt a few summer's past. The song was about...them. He'd been so excited for the opportunity he didn't even notice until now.
"As long as your sure you want me to do it," Wyatt said after a moment wanting to make sure Kennie hadn't asked in hopes that he would back out so she could find someone else. After all telling him he sounded awful and couldn't do it, definitely would have put a bit of a clamp on their relationship. Wyatt would have understood, but it was easy to see why Kennie might be afraid that he wouldn't. Then again now that he knew the song was more or less about them he really wouldn't be too happy with anyone else getting to sing it.

Shivers shot through Kennie as his voice signified that he'd recognized the song...that it was a good song for them. Hiding the way he made her tingle just a bit Kennie looked at her sheet of lyrics, smirking at him, though there was no denying the sparkle in her eyes. "I never wanted anyone else to." She said honestly, watching his expression and studying it.
There were so many nights they'd sat on the beach, playing out melodies and rhthyms, writing lyrics, Twigg would make fun of her for spending so much time on the beach...then she'd see their work and just..stare for a moment. Wyatt had definitly opened up her eyes and heart to different possibilites...probably one reason she had a feeling this particular song would be so good.
After the instrumentals finished playing out she pressed stop, smiling at him. "What do you think of that?" It was more of a plea that he did like it, Kennie was rarely self consious with her music, after all, her record was coming along beautifully. But the songs on it were all hers, they all meant something to her, Wyatt was more of an inspiration than he knew. "Should we try it all the way through?" She asked him, her eyes wide.

"Well then I guess I have to do it don't I?" Wyatt smiled. He was comfortable teasing Kennie a bit now that she was sure he was serious about this. Plus Wyatt making little jokes like that was always a good thing, it meant he was comfortable. He was so glad Kennie had wanted him for the song and even more excited knowing his voice was actually fitting...Unless Kennie was just fooling herself into thinking it was perfect for him because she wanted it to be, but while Wyatt felt there may be some people better than him for the spot he knew no one could mean the lyrics the way he did now knowing they meant what they did.
"That sounded great," Wyatt said actually surprised at how amazing the instrumentals sounded, he had been going over where the words fit in and even singing inaudibly under his breath. He knew he shouldn't have been surprised, it was Kennie after all but the melody was just so cool, simple and rhythmic. With the words added in the song would be a hit easily. It would be good as maybe a second single released off the album he knew Kennie would have coming sooner or later, leaning towards sooner. It wouldn't make a bad first single, but it would be better for the first single off the album to be one that was just her so people grew to like her sound first before having to through Wyatt into the mix.
"Yea," Wyatt said reading the script in his hands. "Let's do this," he finished smiling in excitement as he looked up at Kennie his eyes dancing. Now he could really get deeper into the feeling of the music he was sure he could make it sound way better...at least to him seeing as Kennie seemed perfectly happy with him already.

In the way he spoke it was more obvious than not that Wyatt wanted to do the song, that he understood it, and that he meant it. That in itself was enough to melt Kennie's heart ... and any doubt that she didn't want him. Nodding her head at him, her smile unexplainable, she swallowed...hard. There was little she could say that would make any sense at the moment, the song that they were singing pouring out more emotion than either of them had shown in the last few days...though they had joined forces once more...in more ways than one. Tucking a strand of hair behind her ear she smirked at him, the paper in her hands beginning to shake slightly. What was he doing to her?
The way his voice flowed quietly as he matched the words to the song sent shivers up Kennie's spine...a memory already when she'd just seen it happen moments earlier. Composing herself she coughed into her hand and looked straight at Wyatt, nodding in agreement, the smile still on her face. God, how long had it been since she'd been so...giddy? It was almost embarrassing...if Wyatt lacked any self-esteem near her...it was worthless to do so. There was little in Wyatt that Kennie couldn't see.
Pressing play on the player once more the music filled the air, Kennie smirked, filling the music with a few notes of her own accord here and there until her part began. "If I should die before I wake it's cause you took my breahte away.Losing you isl ike living in a world with no air...oooh."

Wyatt smiled for no real reason, he just couldn't not smile when he looked at Kennie. He could be having the worst day of his life look up and see her and know that everything would be ok and force his lips into a thin smile. Wyatt didn't really want to test this theory, and felt he didn't have to. It was just one of those things you knew without knowing. Wyatt took a breath as the music started, it was just so exciting. He took one last glance at the music and moved the lyrics to his side, now sure he knew at least the first verse without having to look, and Kennie began to sing. The girl had an amazing voice. That was something Wyatt could never forget about her.
He missed spending days at the beach with Kennie writing lyrics and just enjoying the others company. He wasn't lying in the shop when he said he'd missed her a lot more than he'd thought he would. Most girls did hang around the back of his mind for about a few days or so mostly out of guilt and if he thought about it he could recall names and faces of each girl he dated, but with Kennie he was still missing her months later. It became easier when he was dating his co-star because he was filling the void, but the void was never completely filled...just covered up. It was like putting a tarp over a hole in ground, maybe it was even pulled tight enough so you could walk across it, but under the thin tarp still laid a gaping hole.
"I'm here, alone, didn't want, to leave. My heart, won't move, its incomplete, wish there, was a way, that i can make you understand." Wyatt sang the words the memory of the day he left burning fresh in his mind. His voice felt more powerful now it felt better for him, and he was maybe a little louder now that there was the instrumentals playing under him and he wanted his vocals to be clear. As the verse ended Waytt looked back to his lyrics anxiously awaiting the next time he would get to sing, which would be the harmony of the chorus.

"But how? Do you expect me? To live alone with just me? Cause my world revolves around you...it's so hard for me to breathe!" His voice was synching with hers better than expected and Kennie was having a difficult time controlling the smile on her face that threatened to make singing all the more difficult. They'd always made excellent music together...this was just the first time they'd made it this far...with anything really.
Pushing a strand of hair from her face Kennie sent her free hand on the stool near them, her hand hitting his without her intention. Looking at him as he began to sing she started to pull away, unsure if touching while practicing a song was constituted in the slowness agreement. Biting at her bottom lip she closed her eyes for a moment, allowing memories to flood her mind as Wyatt's voice filled her head and heart. There was just something about the two of them that she couldn't really explain...that she'd never been able to put into words, her music was the first thing and really only thing that was able to get her to bring out what she felt for him. That and her lips.

Wyatt was really listening to the lyrics as Kennie sang. He'd always loved her voice, he loved singing with her because something about her voice seemed to put him at ease make it easier for him to sing. How could he have just left the way he did? Well he really hadn't had much of a choice, and he had thought he would be back a lot sooner, but he had already been gone for nearly a month when he was offered the spot on the show and how was he supposed to know Kennie would still want to be with him when he got back, what if she'd found something else? He would have given up the chance of a lifetime to lose the only thing he'd ever wanted as badly (if not more) than acting/musical fame.
It was stupid but he'd considered asking Kennie to accompany him to an awards show, but even assuming he could have found the time to fly out to Cape Cod where would he look? How would he know how to even find her. Still she probably would have had something better to do...or at least that was his thinking at the time. It was better PR that he go with his co-star anyway...even if they didn't really get much (if any) camera coverage, the people there still saw them together. She'd actually reminded him of Kennie. She had different look but still that same sexy cuteness, a nice laugh and was someone good to talk to. They'd just never had that same connection Wyatt had with Kennie which they'd both realized hence why the relationship ended so painlessly.
Wyatt had gotten so caught in thought he nearly missed the cue for the chorus, but caught it in time, maybe even jumping it by a split second afraid he'd miss it. "Tell me how I'm s'posed to breathe with no air, can't live can't breathe with no air, that's how I feel when I know you ain't there, There's no air, no air. Got me out here and the water's so deep, Tell me how you gonna be without me, if you ain't here i just can't breathe, Its No Air No Air, No air air, ooh, No air air, noo, No air air ohh, No air air." Wyatt hoped he'd sung his part well and they harmonized okay, but there wasn't much time to really stop and think as he realized he started the second verse.
"I Walked, I Ran, I Jumped, I Flew, Right off the ground, To float to you, Theres no gravity, To hold me down, For real," Wyatt grinned almost laughing a little after he said 'for real.' it was just a little funny to hear him say the line, but it was still good.

Wyatt's voice revirberated through Kennie's body, sending tremors right to her heart. He was singing her lyrics with the meaning they held, his grin showed he meant it too. There was little that Kennie could do other than sing, because she felt as if she were losing control of her own mind and body simply breathing in his scent. The melody and harmony worked better than she'd imagined when she and her friend had written,it was perfect. With another shiver she took her part once. "Somehow I'm still alive inside, you took my breath but I survived. I don't know how but I don't even care!" Blinking once, then twice she watched him. Beginning her part of the chorus as he did. "So how? Do you expect me? To live alone with just me? Cause my world revolves you, it's so hard for me to breath!"
"Ohh!" Her stomach flipped every few seconds, simply from her voice slipping into his like the perfect fit. "Ohh..." Smiling at him Kennie tucked a strand of her hair, her voice never wavering from the lyrics on the page, her ears still tingling with how it all sounded. That was the thing about music, when it all came together it was one of the most amazing feelings anyone could feel, hear. All of it was just...perfect when you found the right sounds for it all.
Shifting her stance she sang with Wyatt still, the beat and lyrics floating through the air. There wasn't anyone else to fit the song, no one else who could sing it the way she wanted them to. Suddenly her stomach ached for the two months they'd had together, her heart begged to feel all that they'd felt once more. Now...now they were friends and for Kennie, as she sang her raw feelings with him, she was realizing that being just friends....as smart as it was, was like watching him walk away from her on the beach once more.
Shaking her head once, a smile flew across her lips as they came to the end of the song, their voices powerful as they took something and gave something to the other. There weren't two people on the campus that you could find who fit into a song like fitting into your favorite pants like Wyatt and Kennie, it was something they could just...do without thinking.
