Wyatt had been sitting at a booth near the window of the diner for the past 20 minutes or so. Kennie wasn't late, not yet at least, rather he had decided to show up early, to make sure he could get this booth, cozy, nice little view outside, and easy to see from the front of the restaurant. His wait seemed a little superfluous now though as the lunch crowd wasn't as impressive as he'd feared, but he remained convinced would have taken the spot if he hadn't been here.
Kennie should be here soon, approximately five minutes until there scheduled meeting time. Hopefully she wouldn't be late as Wyatt's time alone at the booth already had him wondering if Kennie would end up standing him up, or even just caught up at work making her a half hour late, but with no way of contacting Wyatt couldn't tell him thus leading him to the conclusion she would have stood him up. But what were the odds of that? He just needed to relax she liked him and wouldn't want to miss this lunch...and even if she didn't show he could still have lunch by himself...maybe someone would recognize him.
Wyatt brought the white ceramic cup of coffee he'd been nursing since he came in, up to his lips and blew lightly into it. The liquid was already lukewarm, but his mind was lost in though and the action was subconscious. He tilted the cup to take a light sip as he began to think again about how he told Kennie he'd wanted to take it 'slow.' Slow it seemed, as of the moment meant they could kiss, but no more, and they technically weren't dating. Wyatt hated that he was never one for an open relationship because of his jealousy, which was ironic as he always ended up cheating on girls. He just never felt he was good enough.
He would get to know these girls and how great they were and he would just feel so undeserving that...he cheated on them. It didn't make any sense really but it was more a way to show these girls they deserved better than him. A simple break-up made it too easy for them to want him back, cheating on them was a much more effective way of making sure they burned all his pictures and finally found a guy who would be more deserving of her.

Entering the diner five minutes early Kennie looked around, hoping this hadn't been some sort of mirage or joke made up by Cambria, the girl's car would end up totaled. Smiling as she saw the familiar face sitting in a booth she walked towards him, shaking her head as Rosa tried to seat her at her regular booth. "Hey stranger, I hope you weren't waiting long." Sitting she began glancing at the menu.
Rosa brought her a glass of water and a fresh cup of coffee, one of those things people just did when they were well acquainted with you. Thanking her Kennie began stirring her straw around her water, a nervous habit. She'd changed from her work clothes into the school set she always took with her to work. A green tank top that was form fitting with it 's own little designs all over it, followed by a pair of tight fitting jeans, with Kennie's ever present hole in the left knee. Not having time to do her hair she'd left it in the messy bun it had been in earlier, but missed a spot of oil while washing up. The oil spot resided on her neck a few inches below her earlobe.
It'd been nerve racking for her to walk over from the shop. It wasn't a long walk and she rarely drove around the Cape, gas prices weren't worth it most of the time. If she had Tyler it'd be a different story. Twigg had barely made it on time. "Wyatt...I..." Kennie wasn't sure what she was going to say. She'd allowed herself to fall in love with this man and let him go as well...now he was back and they were taking it slow. Though it made sense...Kennie wasn't sure she was willing to wait...she'd already done it for so long.

"Not too long, no," Wyatt said putting down his cup. Too long was a relative term, and Wy didn't feel as though it had been too long, seeing as he knew he was twenty minutes early when he arrived so he had been waiting just long enough. No need to risk making Kennie feel guilty for 'making him wait' when she'd done no such thing.
Wyatt smiled as she took a seat glad for the company. He glanced to the waitress and gave her a polite half smile as she made her way over to get Kennie coffee and water. Apparently she and Kennie were acquainted. It made him quite glad he was polite as possible to her when he'd come in. Not that Wyatt wasn't normally polite, but the fact that he was using the booth for himself and just drinking coffee during the lunch hour could have caused some controversy, and it hadn't. Of course this wasn't exactly a first date Kennie knew Wyatt didn't mistreat people, but just in case she'd forgotten.
Wyatt waited a second for Kennie to recollect her thought but when nothing came he found himself curious. "What is it?" he asked, concern evident in his voice. Was she going to break up with him before they actually started dating again? was there another guy she neglected telling him about? What?

Shifting in her seat Kennie took to staring at the ice cubes bobbing around the straw she was using as a stir stick for no particular reason. Looking back up she smiled at Wyatt, unsure of how to phrase what she wanted to say. Not that it was bad...but Kennie was bad at waiting for things when they were dangled in front of her. But looking at Wyatt...most girls would have a hard time and Kennie knew it.
"Do you want to come over tonight?" She flipped the conversation, rather than go into how serious they could or couldn't get she wanted to see what he did whilst meeting Twigg and Tyler once more. It wasn't that it was a pressured situation, but family was vital to her more now than ever. They'd picked up her broken pieces when she couldn't have done it herself.
"Not for anything bad, just meet my roommate...lousy dinner." Chuckling she put her hand on the back of her neck and bent it back for a moment before looking to him. Her nerves were on end, as if they would snap at any moment. Everything was so...shocking and thrilling to her. But was he feeling that way too? Was he going slow because there was another girl? Wiping the thought from her mind as Rosa appeared she ordered a pancake covered in strawberries and handed her menu back to her. "I love your new haircut Rosa." Kennie smiled, Rosa blushed.

Wyatt took another slow sip from his coffee cup to try and hide the anxiety that was eating at him as he awaited Kennie's comment that she seemed unable to finish. Unfortunately he would be left waiting, as Kennie decided to change the subject instead, to a question he'd hoped he wouldn't have to answer. Being invited over? That could not be goo for the slow pace they agreed on. Wyatt hesitated pulling his lips in as he considered.
He'd just gone over how he couldn't let the lunch be extended beyond the hour they had, and yet now he found that he couldn't possibly say no to such an invitation. He considered saying he was swamped with work when Kennie saved him by elaborating. She just wanted him to meet her roommate. That could work, now that he'd met Tyler he was anxious to meet the roommate as well. And as long as they all hung out together, there was really nothing they could do that would break the going slow policy. In fact meeting 'the family' played perfectly into taking it slow and making sure he could commit.
Once again Wyatt found himself cut off before he could even properly form the thought as Rosa returned to the table. "It looks nice," Wyatt agreed not sure the words would mean anything coming from him, but still it seemed polite. "So, lousy dinner with your roommate," Wyatt said getting back on task his tone indicating he was still pondering the idea though he already knew his decision. "How could I refuse?" He grinned. Hopefully he wasn't making a huge mistake. "What time should I come by?"

Taking a decent sized bite of her pancake, loaded with strawberries, Kennie chewed and swallowed, smiling kindly at him. "Whatever time works, we're usually home after eight and putting a movie in while we make dinner." Thinking of it, Kennie realized that though she, Twigg, and Tyler did this often ... it was a comforting and entertaining routine that she did not think he'd mind at all. Though how Twigg would take to Wyatt was a different story.
Taking another bite of her pancake Kennie set her fork down and thought for a moment as she chewed. Kennie was the epitome of what people were when they weren't shy, she rarely hid anything about herself from people. Wyatt knew this all too well, unlike most girls she had no issues with eating in front of people. As she swallowed and took a sip of water once more her thoughts returned to the fact that she, in fact, was anti-slow...and if it was up to her she probably would take him home right then. Instead she shut herself up with some more food.
Being with Wyatt again was not only nostalgic, it was comforting. Because he knew most of her quirks and interests, it wasn't one of those awkward getting-to-know-you things...it was lunch with an ex/love interest. Finishing her food slowly she looked at him. Her penetrating blue eyes boring into his own, begging to find the secret that he wasn't telling her. How she knew he was hiding one was beyond her. "So what have you got done with school so far?" She asked, taking a slow sip of coffee.

"I'll show up around 8 then," Wyatt said deciding he would like to be around for the beginning of this little tradition of watching a movie as you prepared dinner. Besides he didn't want to risk coming too late and interrupting dinner, of even a crucial moment of the plot in whatever movie they had playing. This would be his only chance at making a good first impression on Kennie's roommate, if he screwed this up it could make Kennie reconsider their relationship.
Wyatt hated to think that one bad first impression would completely destroy his relationship with Kennie, but at the least it would complicate things severely and Wyatt may only end up making it worse. The best solution as always was to make sure the problem never arose. He would show up right around 8, just as he had been invited to do. He would bring over a nice flower arrangement or something...he wasn't legal yet so he couldn't get a bottle of wine, but flowers for a vase should work...unless they didn't have a vase...maybe he'd just get a few roses, or a fruit salad or something. "Do you want me bring anything?" Wyatt asked finally deciding this was the easiest way to keep him from going insane. If she said no he would still get some flowers just to keep him from arriving empty handed.
"Not too much really, learning to improve my crafts but not much in the way of performance. I've been working on a few songs, but I can never seem to get more than halfway through one. I'm gonna need to pick one and finish it up though since I volunteered to perform in one of my music classes next week. And I think theres a scene study coming up in one of my acting classes which should be fun," Wyatt said saying more than he had intended when he opened his mouth but the words just flowed from his mouth. It was a good opportunity for Kennie to enjoy her her pancakes, which she certainly seemed to be. Wyatt smiled at her, eating was another one of those things only Kennie could seem to make attractive. She was just so honest and upfront with the way she went about it. And maybe with a mouthful of pancakes wasn't when she looked best, but she still looked better than half the other girls at this school at their best.

Eating her pancakes with ease Kennie listened to the bustle of the diner, the calm tone of Wyatt's voice with the edge of nervousness that made her want to smile, instead she quietly chewed and did so internally. "You don't have to bring anything." She said as her final bit of pancake made it's way to her stomach for digestion. Kennie was not one to ignore food, though many girls on the Cape were so obsessed with 'bikini bodies' they didn't touch it. "Just yourself is perfectly fine." Her eyes were wide, happiness flooding them though she tried desperately to stop them.
Putting her fork on the plate inwardly and folding her paper napkin into a square, setting it on there as well, she pushed the plate nearer to edge, making it easier for Rosa to retrieve it and leave a check of some sort. Taking a sip of coffee, followed by a sip of water, Kennie smiled once more at the man in front of her. Her mind, somehow, still trying to process that he was really there.
The way he described school excited her, because it meant so much to him. When they'd dated he'd been much more into fame than education, looking at him now it seemed either the bug died or he learned a few difficult lessons along the way of life. Pushing some bangs from her face gently she tilted her head. "All of that sounds ridiculously exciting." She said in earnest. Kennie was so absorbed with her album that there was no way she was concentrating on her acting as she should be. "What's the scene for the study?" She asked, tapping one of her slender fingers against the glass in the rhthym of Gardenia. A song she had already perfected and shown off to Twigg.

"Okay," Wyatt said taking a sip from his coffee which was now just about empty. Flowers it was. Wyatt would get the flowers and a vase as well, he could leave the vase in the car and only get it if it proved necessary. But there was still the question of what kind of flowers. But what were Kennie's favorite? Had she ever told him? Did she even like flowers. "As a matter of interest what's your favorite flower?" Wyatt asked unable to keep from hinting that he intended to get Kennie a bouquet. That wasn't really taking slow was it? Well the flowers weren't just for her, they were for her roommate and Tyler as well...almost like an extraordinarily late house warming gift.
"It is pretty exciting," Wyatt admitted. He missed getting to actually be filming a show, but at least now he understood how easy he had it at school. It wasn't like he couldn't survive in the real world, and he would have found some work sooner or later, but the life of a student was so much more cushy. And it wasn't the social life in LA he missed, his social life seemed a whole lot better here, it was doing the work he missed. Being on set, awake for 20 hours a day shooting for 14 of them. At the time it got tedious, but he still loved every minute of it. It was nice to be able to breath a little more more though. Still work on what you loved but in a more controlled environment.
"It's from a Neil Simon play...one of the three that was his biographic set...Broadway bound I think is the one it's from," Wyatt said not quite sure if it was Broadway Bound or Brighton Beach that his scene was from, though he was reasonably sure it was Broadway Bound, he just confused the titles sometimes. In any case he knew his lines pretty well, it was a fun character, Eugene Jerome who represented the young Neil Simon. The scene wasn't an overly long one, and that wasn't where his main concern was. He worried more about music his weaker craft, he needed to come up with at least one more verse for the song he had in mind and considering it was about a girl he hadn't seen in sometime that could be difficult. He had a few He'd started about Kennie when they broke up, but it seemed wrong to finish a song about how sad he was to be leaving when he had finally returned.

Kennie was slightly taken aback by the flower question, she had said he didn't have to provide anything yet he was bringing flowers. She couldn't help but smirk his way, weren't they taking things slow? Running that through her mind Kennie had to give them credit...compared to when they'd met...this was slow...this was molasses on a cold day for them. Which was sad, considering her strange desire of wanting to just...take him where they sat.
Shaking the thoughts away internally she thought for a moment. "Gardenia's and Orchids." She stated matter-o-factly. Kennie after all had a song named Gardenia on her disc, it was only natural that would be her number one favorite. "Why is this an important factor?" She asked him, leaning forward on the table lightly, almost holding herself up. But that was Kennie, always moving somehow...someway.
His description of what he was doing for his scene study brought a contemplative smile to her face. Kennie was in acting, she adored it, however ... she hadn't been concentrating on it as much as she should've. There was too much music running through her head for her to concentrate on both, making her sad that she only understood half of Wyatt was talking about. "Sounds fascinating." Her voice earnest as she said this, it wasn't like she'd pretend she cared. Kennie Canstine was too honest for that sort of thing.
"I'm afraid my acting is being stalled for the moment." She stated, propping her elbow on the table, her chin resting in her hand slowly, accenting the oil spot on her neck all the more, still without her notice. "Sounds like you're filling me in on what I've missed." Her smirk was imperceptable and Kennie hoped he knew she was saying all this in good humor.

"Good choices," Wyatt smiled. He didn't know much about flowers but for one reason or another he'd always enjoyed orchids, they were colorful and fragrant. Gardenia's were nice as well...at least they sounded nice Wy wasn't exactly sure which ones they were. "Because, I like knowing things about you," Wyatt answered simply and oh-so innocently. He'd felt like they skipped over a lot of the slow stuff the first time around, just as he always did in relationships. Until now he'd only bought single roses used as a romantic playing off the value modern media had infused into the symbolism of a single red rose. It was a trite and over done thing, but as always he was sincere enough to make it work. Now he actually stopped to personalize the presentation of flowers.
"One more thing, do you happen to have a vase conveniently located in the kitchen or surrounding area that is in need of some fresh flowers?" He asked deciding to continue to play up this little game where he told Kennie he was bringing her flowers without actually telling her he was bringing her flowers. Plus it gave her a chance to deny wanting flowers...of course if she did that Wyatt would still buy the flowers he would just say they were for Kennie's roommate instead...since technically they were to be enjoyed by her as well. He wasn't sure why he was so committed to the idea, he just was. This type of thing did tend to happen to Wyatt sometimes, he would get an idea in his head to do something and from that point on no one could talk him out of it.
"I don't know about fascinating, but it is fun," Wyatt said not quite so sure his scene study could be considered 'fascinating.' He was enjoying it though and that was what mattered. Wyatt wasn't a huge fan of theater acting though. The rush of performances every night and a live captivated audience was good every once in awhile, but he's always felt more comfortable around a camera.
Wyatt smiled at the comment not sure exactly how to respond. "I've been neglecting my music classes a bit...the performance is for extra credit to make up for the fact I fell a sleep in class last week," Wyatt offered deciding to come clean about why he had 'volunteered' to share a song with the class. Sining his original lyrics and playing his own accompaniment. It veered off the subject slightly but he felt he needed to say it.

Listening to him hint about flowers whilst trying to pretend he wasn't made Kennie smirk at him in a way she hadn't in a very long time. That look that knew exactly what was going on but she was playing along all the same. Tilting her head to the side her eyes danced. "I might have one lying around somewhere, would the flowers prefer clear or white?" She asked him, as he seemed to be speaking for them. With her heart thumping in her chest...it was becoming increasingly difficult to hear him.
"It's fascinating for someone whose struggling." She stated matter-oh-factly. Everything about being with Wyatt left her in an entertained daze. No one could hold her attention as long as he could...specially now considering there was so much to catch up on. Suddenly inspiration struck her and she was pulling out a pen and ripping a napkin from the dispenser, the words wanting to flow from her fingertips faster than she was able.
Looking at him as she wrote, a gift it seemed, she replied to his final statement, her eyes still dancing, a smile curving her lips. All the things that really made Kennie Canstine herself...even the dab of oil located beneath her ear. "Why don't we help eachother out?" She suggested, looking at the napkin as she felt the marble begin beneath the pen rather than the flimsy paper meant for messes.
Inside her head Kennie always had words, for everything. Wyatt was the one who had honestly opened that dam though, before they'd met...she'd only dabbled in the art of writing and stuck to cars and instruments. Now she had anything she could want...even him...though that wasn't all true, he wasn't hers yet, that furrowed her brow as she dotted an i.

"Well you know I think the flowers would just be glad to find a home, but I've always thought flowers looked happiest in clear," Wyatt said almost serious but still with the air of playfulness. He never really could stand flowers in anything but a clear vase. A white vase was just...it didn't seem fitting. besides he knew orchids had white in them and he was pretty sure gardenia's were white so it would just look weird. A good crystal clear vase would be perfect...actually now that he thought about it it was really best he just but the vase himself to make sure it would be big enough. Well he could still just stick to the plan of buying it as back up.
"I didn't realize you were struggling," Wyatt said realizing he never had seen Kennie in the element of acting before. Still, it was hard for him to imagine her struggling with anything. That was what happened when you couldn't see bad in a person. Even if Wyatt had been watching her he wondered if he would have been able to tell she was struggling. e could usually tell but with Kennie he wasn't so sure he could see her as doing poorly, or maybe he just wouldn't want to tell her. It was hard to say, but if she'd wanted help he would probably feel a little better about giving her a little constructive criticism to improve whatever specific things were giving her trouble.
Strange how she seemed to be able to read his mind sometimes. But it made sense. He was having trouble with music she was having trouble with acting, so why wouldn't they help each other. "I think I'd like that," Wyatt said trying to sneak a peek at the napkin Kennie was scribbling on. he always got excited when she got inspired and started scribbling and always wanted to know what she was writing before the pen even reached the paper. "Whatcha writin'?" he asked innocently smirking as he continued to try and peek at the napkin to see if he could find out for himself.

"Then I expect I'll be breaking my vase tonight...feel free to bring a new one." She said with a smirk, the game upping in itself thanks to the other player. Kennie had always enjoyed bantering with Wyatt if not for the pure fact that they were awful at honestly offending each other. Putting her finger into her cheek, where there was usually a dimple, she smirked once more before returning to her writing as his voice filled every inch of her so perfectly. "Acting is something I struggle with indefinitly." Looking up Kennie smiled sweetly, as if it pained her that he cared she was struggling. Kennie was one of those girls who would rather take someone's pain away than let them see hers anyday....that had beent he basis of how she and Frank had survived after their mother left. They'd never let anyone take of them but themselves. Blinking after staring into his eyes for a moment too long Kennie looked down at the napkin and began writing once more. Flipping the napkin over she began writing on the other side, the slow beat filling her head while she searched for a reply to his comments. A smile visible on her face all the while, she couldnt' help it. Biting at her bottom lip she dotted an I and crossed a T, wondering what the song was going to sound like if it became more than a napkin scribble. "Then we'll help each other." Looking up she grasped the napkin beneath her hand for a moment, nervousness crossing her face mildly. Looking down she wrote the title across the top corner of the napkin in her messy scrawl. whole of the moon before sliding it towards him. "You can't laugh." She said sternly, though her nerves were strung and her voice proved that. Sipping at her water Kennie waited for him to answer. I pictured a rainbow You held it in your hand I had flashes but You saw the plan I wandered out in the world for years While you just stayed in your room I saw the crescent You saw the whole of the moon The whole of the moon
You were there in the turnstiles With the wind at your heels You stretched for the stars And you know how it feels To reach too high (too high) Too far (too far) Too soon (too soon) You saw the whole of the moon
I was grounded While you filled the skies I was dumbfounded by truth You cut through lies I saw the rain dirty valley You saw "Brigadoon" I saw the crescent You saw the whole of the moon Yeah
I spoke about wings You just flew I wondered I guessed and I tried You just knew and I sighed And you swooned
I saw the crescent You saw the whole of the moon The whole of the moon The whole of the moon
The torch in your pocket And the wind on your heels You climbed on the ladder And you know how it feels To get too high (too high) Too far (too far) Too soon (too soon) You saw the whole of the moon The whole of the moon
Unicorns and cannonballs Palaces and Piers Trumpets, towers, and tenaments Wide oceans full of tears Flags, rags, ferryboats Scimitars and scarves Every precious dream and vision Underneath the stars Yes, you climbed on the ladder With the wind in your sails You came like a comet Blazing your trail Too high (too high) Too far (too far) Too soon (too soon) You saw the whole of the moon
The whole of the moon Yeah, you saw the whole of the moon
